What is up my people! This will be my first written review,
and guess which game is going to start it all. Titanfall, a first person
multiplayer shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by ….you
guessed it, Electronic Arts. Now I’m not here to give you the hype and tell
you, “Ooh this game is the best thing ever!!!!” or “ This is a Call of Duty
killer”. I’m going to give you my honest opinion on the game and what I liked
and disliked; and even weather its worth getting it or not. Lets do this
Disclaimer: I am not going to compare this game to COD. -_- Deal with it
Gameplay
Being that it is a first person
shooter, you would think that the formula of it would be the standard run and
shoot, it is but with some slight adjustments. Its pretty fast paced,
especially with the use of Parkour and jet propelled gliding. Oh did I forget
to mention the use of Mechs (if you are into any thing revolving around mech’s
or giant robots (Gundam, Transformers, Megazords from the Power Ranger series,
or what have you. This is the part where you ‘re suppose to geek out. Commence
with the 11011101011010111011101)…I don’t know binary code. Anyway, the game in
it self is pretty straightforward to play and pick up.
***SPOILERS****
When you begin to play in the campaign, it starts you out as
a pilot in a simulation program. During the training it teaches all the moves
as a pilot and then later as titan, all in all the basics. After that you are then thrown right into the
action of the “campaign”…yeah you will see why I say this later in my review.
What
I liked
- ·
The Maps and Game Modes. The Maps are good, even
though wide and spacious. It fits the game pretty well. With combinations of
pilots and titans that can cover the maps. It makes the player think of terms
of approach and executing wisely instead of aimlessly shooting.
o
Speaking of Maps, the artistically look great.
My favorite being that of…that one. You know that map with the sunset. Okay, I
can honestly say I forgot the name, but you will know the map when you come too
it.
- ·
Caters to players of all levels. No matter what
type of player you are, from the ones who truly care about the objectives and
actually killing pilots; to the others that just want to kill grunts ( bots).
Everyone gets rewards or perks for killing something. Its almost in a way forcing
you to kill grunts through the challenges in the game, because that is the only
way you can mod the weapons (focusing on the weapons carried by pilots), is to
kill the grunts or specters. The titan weapons follow close to the same format
expect gaining the mods through killing other titans.
- ·
As I mentioned before, the movement in this
game!!! Well executed, you can pretty
much go anywhere, as long as you don’t go outside the battle zone and get that
stupid count down telling you to return to the battle. (Color outside the
lines!!! I do what I want GAME, you cant tell me Nothing!!!!). Up into the sky,
scaling walls. Its like playing Spiderman, if Spiderman was an intergalactic
solider saving man kind from the likes of the Beyonder. Secret wars expansion
pack Respawn? Come on you guys can figure out a way.
- ·
Burn cards, Temporary perks that can be earned
as rewards for different objectives or actions done within the game. They are
pretty great and can come in handy in tight situations. Though once you are
killed, the perks get flushed down the toilet. I like this aspect because now
you wont have those Perk steroid Abusers out in the field almost streaking
people with crazy kills left and right for no good reason.
What
I DON’T LIKE!!!!
- ·
The campaign. There was hardly any campaign mode. Heck, it was just another portion of
Multiplayer. I say this because you literally start out, after the tutorial; in
the first mission either fighting with IMC or the Militia and with five other
players. ONLINE!! Basically Respawn, you gave us that reversal. Gave us some
awesome multiplayer, but a “campaign” that really lacks all the necessary
attributes to name it as such. The Story
itself wasn’t all that clear or captivating. Depth? There was none. Climactic
twist? Don’t recall, and if so I don’t really remember why this war or battle
was going on. You should of just given us (the gamers) multiplayer and a price
cut. I didn’t even catch the chick’s name that kept telling me my titan will be
ready in 60 seconds. Though I will one of these days. Oh I will, (looks at here
face on the screen as I’m shooting HAHA!)
- ·
A person getting mad kills with the smart
pistol. That gun just should of never been thrown into the Game.
- ·
I can’t even name custom load outs. A creative individual
like myself likes to organize things with specific names on custom options.
Just something id like to do.
- ·
Gun selection isn’t all that huge in the game 10
primary weapons, 3 side arms, and 4 anti titan weapons. (Don’t let the number
throw you for loop thinking, “ Pious man that’s good enough). We all know when
playing shooters we like a little variety in our coffee. You get 2 SMGs, a
Rifle, Shotgun, LMG, 2 Assault like rifles, 2 sniper rifles, oh and that oh so
lovely smart pistol. Yes the pistol is a primary weapon…Not a side arm…but
primary. (NO ONE LIKES YOU SMART PISTOL YOU WILL BE BANISHED TO THE SCRAP
HEEP!!). Id like more variety in primary department and also they should of
increased the number of side are weaponry. Its only 2 pistols and a
revolver…that’s it. Where is my automatic pistol with clip of 30 in it? Don’t you
dare tell me that am what the smart pistol was there for!
- ·
Only 3
types of titans and I can’t customize them more attuned to what I’d
want. I was really hoping there would have been more emphasis on customizing a
titan, you know with $60 and all. Sheesh can’t even get a west coast custom
paint job? I wanted a low riding titan with servos that kept spinning even when
I stop moving. You know or at least
armor attachments or something to stand out from the other titans. Cosmetic
changes I know.
Overall
To sum this all up!! This game is
fun and it has its moments (both Good and Bad). It does take skill for you to
play the game wisely (chalk up another like). Though I can’t honestly see
myself in the next several months like how I’m playing it now, only because I’m
looking forward to some other titles that will be dropping later on this year(KH3,
The Crew, Halo, Arkham Knight. Just to name a few off the top of the head). Is
this game worth the 60 bucks down you put on it if you have a Xbox one or just
thinking about getting an Xbox One. Eeeh, save your money or if you get it in a
bundle deal I suggest buying another game title to break up the tediousness
Titanfall can bring. Though if you are thinking, “ You Just crazy Pious, I
don’t have time drop the money like that for something that’s just ok”. Just
save up your money and spend it on something you really want or invest in
something more beneficial. Like I said earlier in this review. With the
campaign being like it was in the game. I strongly believe the game should have
been cheaper than $60.
To Respawn, if you ever see this,
some suggestions for possible DLC. Maybe give us some skin packs of playing as
Some Autobots or Decpeticons. Maybe even some anime mechs we all used to grow
up with in the 90’s, so maybe the Gundam Series maybe only pulling from the
Zero series; but if not that whatever series you want. Maybe some bladed
weapons, Beam sabers or Energon blade, beam scythe. Okay, Now I’m just Geeking
out. Until next time my people, be blessed.
